Love the concept of Gauss weaponry, but as with another weapon I saw with a semi-similar design, I REALLY don't think I'd want my trigger finger so close to the muzzle. Call me skittish, but there's nothing about having my hand that close to a metal sliver traveling way too damn fast that sounds wise to me.
I'd still risk it just to shoot this thing and put a hole in the moon.
Bushmaster designed a heavy "target pistol" with a similar balance, called the "arm pistol" - it was banned from competition because it was too easy to use well, and instantly made obsolete all that came before. And we can't have revolutionary weapon technology being used for sports, right?
Wow cool, not often you see a Gauss pistol, they're usually in rifle or cannon form. the barrel's so narrow too! What caliber is it? And does it create the cool plasma trail effect that larger Gauss and railgun weapons create?
ah...well you could always use a plasma armature formed from an inert gas such as argon or xenon. That creates plasma too and can insulate against barrel ablation, not to mention let you use a smaller round...but the barrel's so small here that you probably wouldn't need it.
It's a gauss weapon. The magazine wouldn't have to be very bulky since the projectiles require no chemical propellant and could be something as simple as a ball bearing. I'd guess it's that curved bit on top, or maybe some kind of tube inserted at the rear where that sort of finned thing is.
I know a gauss weapon relies on electromagnetic force for propelling the projectiles, and I also know the projectiles need not be more than a metal pebble the size of a ball bearing from a rollerskate to kill someone very effectively. And yes, I guess the curved bit on top could be a likely candidate. I was still asking. I occasionally ask about technical details I'm not sure of, because I like to be sure.
Though the magasine wouldn't need to be bulky, it could still be large enough to house a considerable amount of ammunition, since a pistol is usually a side arm, and one doesn't necessaily carry any extra ammunition for a side arm.
